Non-Compete Agreements Remain Legal in New York

New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently vetoed a bill that would have banned non-compete agreements and clauses between employers and their employees. New York employers should be aware, however, that Governor Hochul expressed that she is “open to future legislation that achieves the right balance” between companies trying to retain top talent and the need to restrict non-compete agreements for middle-class and low-wage workers.
