Expiration of Los Angeles County’s COVID-Related Benefits

Next week, Los Angeles County will become the most recent jurisdiction in California to sunset certain COVID-19-related benefits. Specifically, on April 14, 2023, Los Angeles County’s supplemental paid sick leave ordinance and paid vaccine leave ordinance will expire.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to end the County’s COVID-19 emergency declarations on March 31, 2023. Both ordinances contain sunset provisions limiting their respective effective dates to two weeks after the County’s COVID-19 emergency declarations have ended.

As a reminder, California’s state supplemental paid sick leave law expired on December 31, 2022, while the City of Los Angeles’s law expired on February 15, 2023. We’ll continue to update you as COVID-19-related benefits continue to be phased out nationwide.
