New Hampshire Requires Employer Notice of Veterans Benefits and Services

In a significant move to support veterans in the workforce, New Hampshire has enacted SB 588, which requires employers to provide clear and accessible information about veterans’ benefits and services. This bipartisan bill aims to ensure that veterans working in New Hampshire are well-informed about the resources available to them.

The bill requires the state Labor Commissioner, in collaboration with the Department of Business and Economic Affairs and the Office of Workforce Opportunity, to create a detailed poster outlining various veterans’ benefits and services. Employers must display this poster in a location that is easily accessible to all employees.

The poster will include essential information such as contact details and website information for the New Hampshire Department of Military Affairs and Veterans Services, resources for substance abuse and mental health treatment, educational and workforce training opportunities, tax benefit information, and guidance on obtaining a veteran’s indicator on state identification cards. Additionally, it will provide information on eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits, legal services, and contact information for the Veterans Crisis Line.

Employers are required to comply with this new mandate by September 17, 2024. Non-compliance could result in civil penalties. Therefore, it is crucial for employers to review the poster requirements, ensure proper display in the workplace, and educate their HR departments on the content to assist veteran employees effectively.
