New Workers’ Compensation License Requirements in California

Current California law generally requires, as a condition precedent to the issuance, reinstatement, reactivation, renewal, or continued maintenance of a license, an applicant for a contractor’s license or a licensee to have on file at all times a current and valid Certificate of Workers’ Compensation Insurance or Certification of Self-Insurance.

recently passed workers’ compensation insurance law now requires active licensees to certify the workers’ compensation classification codes endorsed on their policies during license renewal.

The law will go into effect on July 1, 2024.
