Illinois Extends Statute of Limitations for Employment Discrimination Claims

Effective January 1, 2025, Illinois Senate Bill 3310 significantly extends the statute of limitations for filing employment discrimination, harassment, or retaliation claims with the Illinois Department of Human Rights. Under the new law, employees now have up to 300 calendar days to file an administrative charge based on a civil rights violation in employment.

The extended period under the Illinois Human Rights Act allows claims that may otherwise be time-barred under federal law to proceed at the state level.
