California Updates Employee Wage Theft Notice

As a reminder, effective January 1, 2024, California has changed the state’s paid sick leave provisions, specifically regarding the use, accrual, and carryover of paid sick leave. The new requirements, for example, increase the amount of sick leave an employee can use from 24 hours per year to 40 hours.

California has issued a new Wage Theft Notice accounting for these changes. The notice, as has been the case, must be provided to employees at the time of hiring. Note that the updated notice also includes new information regarding the existence of a federal or state disaster declaration applicable to the county or counties in which the employee will be employed, as specified.
