New York Increases Unemployment Insurance Benefit

New York state has increased the maximum weekly unemployment insurance benefit from $504 to $869, effective immediately. Over half of current recipients will see their payments rise under the new structure: 27% will receive the new maximum, and 28% will see their weekly payments increase. The rate will be automatically recalculated based on the recipient’s previously reported gross earnings. This is the first time the maximum benefit rate has changed since 2019.
