Virginia Amends Medicinal Cannabis Oil Employment Law

Virginia has amended its law related to employees’ medicinal use of cannabis oil. Specifically, the state has amended the provision that prohibits an employer from discriminating against an employee for the lawful use of cannabis oil by specifying that such use must conform to the laws of the Commonwealth. The amended law also includes the employees, other than law-enforcement officers, of the Commonwealth and other public bodies in such protections.

The amended law is effective July 1, 2024.
